A Story of Diversity in the Eye of a Deer

Humans have always struggled with accepting the things that are different from them or the things that challenge their way of life. This difficulty has led them to war, persecution and societal exclusion. It often becomes a situation of us versus them, the others. Throughout history, we have experienced the 'Others' as being the Jewish people, members of the LGBTQ+ community, the Syrian refugees, the indigenous people of Canada and many more. This deer represents the 'Others.' We are very different, however our reflection is visible in its eye because we are both trying to understand and accept each other in this moment. Together, humans need to learn that diversity is an asset and a gift; We need to learn to be inclusive, not selective. Our ideas need to grow, not remain stagnant over time; Our home needs to be a home for all, not just for those that we understand.
